At Beldon Early Learning School, we are dedicated to creating an environment that is inspired with some of the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Our approach ensures that our rooms are aesthetically calming, use natural resources, and provide a purposeful, flexible learning space. Here’s how we integrate Montessori principles into our room design to support the well-being and learning of our children:
Aesthetically-Calming Environment with warm inviting minimalist décor
- We use soft, neutral colours such as beige, light blues, and pastel greens. These colours help create a peaceful atmosphere that reduces anxiety and fosters calmness.
- Our classrooms are designed with large windows to maximize natural light, which enhances mood and promotes a sense of well-being.
- The decor is intentionally minimalist to avoid overstimulation. We use simple, calming imagery and natural elements to create a serene environment.
- We provide calm, quiet areas where children can retreat if they need a break. Soft seating and subdued lighting create a relaxing environment for self-regulation.
- We incorporate elements that reflect the children’s culture and interests, such as artwork and personal projects, to make the environment feel more familiar and welcoming.
- Our decor is simple yet warm, using soft textiles and natural materials to create a cozy atmosphere without distractions
Utilization of Natural Resources
Our furniture and resources are made from sustainable, non-toxic materials such as wood, bamboo and reclaimed wood. This commitment to natural resources supports a healthier environment.
We incorporate low-maintenance plants into our rooms and have 20 pine trees on the outside playground area. These plants improve air quality and add a touch of nature, contributing to a calming atmosphere.
Open Floor Plan with Resources at Children’s Height
- Our rooms feature an open floor plan with movable, child-sized furniture. This layout allows for easy reconfiguration to support various activities and group sizes.
- Shelves and materials are positioned at children’s height to encourage independence. Open shelving allows children to select and return resources on their own.
- We create distinct areas for different activities (e.g., reading, art, STEM) while maintaining an open layout to avoid any sense of confinement.
- Our classroom design ensures that teachers can observe and interact with children easily across the room, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
Facilitating Smooth Transitions
We maintain visual and thematic continuity between rooms. Consistent colours, materials, and decor styles help children feel familiar with new environments.
Where possible, our rooms feature partitions, allowing children to see adjacent rooms and become familiar with new spaces and educators.
We arrange for children to visit their new rooms and interact with new teachers before transitioning. This gradual introduction/orientation helps ease the shift, create new bonds with the educators and builds comfort with the new environment.
By adopting some of the Montessori’s design principles, Beldon Early Learning School creates an environment that supports autonomous learning, reduces anxiety, and facilitates smooth transitions for children. Our thoughtfully designed rooms promote calmness, independence, and a strong sense of community among our students.

Rooms
Beldon Early Learning School has three warm inviting, natural, engaging and minimalistic Montessori-inspired deigns of its indoor and outdoor experiences: Nursery, Toddlers, Preschool. These rooms, all connect to our exceptionally unique designed outdoor play environment. From the bow of our custom-built playground boat, your child will be able to imagine and create a world of their own, while looking out over king’s park, The states war memorial, and the natural swan river.
